Think twice on training cuts

As the National Defense University considers shuttering its College of Information and Cyberspace, a bipartisan group of senators has asked the Department of Defense to rethink its stance. NDU has proposed a reorganization in leadership that would take away the CIC’s full-degree and certificate programs, making any remaining IT or cybersecurity courses electives under other program areas. “We believe that academic programs specializing in cyber and information warfare should not be relegated to standalone elective courses within other NDU colleges, in lieu of their full degree or certificate-granting status at the CIC,” says the letter, signed by four senators. The new way of working

Along with everything else it has upended, the COVID-19 pandemic has forever changed the way we work. There are going to be tough decisions to make whenever organizations come out of the pandemic, with some changing the very fabric from the ground up. To help with this, Salesforce unveiled work.com: A simple, organized way for businesses and communities to identify immediate and long-term decisions they can make now that will prepare them to move out of the crisis. The playbook has four tenets for organizations to focus on how to make decisions, how to work, how to engage customers and how to serve society. Check out the full playbook here.

A collaborative effort

The National Governors Association on Thursday announced the latest group of states it plans to work with to develop cybersecurity policies. Beginning in August, the seven governments will work with the NGA to implement best practices on IT security governance, critical infrastructure cybersecurity and state-local partnerships. The participating states, which were selected through a competitive process, include Colorado, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Tennessee. Benjamin Freed has more.

The challenges continue

As universities across the country pause in-person classes and expand the use of digital tools, higher education administrators are confronting the technical obstacles in the deployment of these new technologies and the cultural challenges of convincing faculty to embrace the change. Those adjustments, coupled with the social and emotional stress of isolation, are also presenting new challenges for educators facilitating that distance learning. Colin Wood has more.
