Atlanta Chief Information Officer Gary Brantley plans to leave city government soon after more than two years in the role, city officials said. In a brief Twitter direct message, Brantley confirmed he had accepted a private-sector “C-suite” job, but said he could not give any more details until his new employer announces it. Brantley, a former CIO for the public school system in DeKalb County, Georgia, was hired by Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms in September 2018, as the city was still recovering from a debilitating ransomware attack that largely defined Bottoms’ first year as mayor. Army and Howard University team up for AI center of excellence

The U.S Army will establish a Center of Excellence at Howard University in what will be a $7.5 million partnership to deliver artificial intelligence technologies. The center will look at “vital civilian applications and multi-domain military operations” in three areas: AI applications for the Department of Defense, trustworthy AI technologies, and infrastructure for AI research and development. “The research is directly aligned with Army priorities and will address pressing problems in both developing and applying AI tools and techniques in several key applications,” said Brian Sadler, the Army researcher who is managing the partnership. Cyber Command must define interoperability goals for new warfighting tools

U.S. Cyber Command has laid out a clear vision for the war-fighting tools it needs, but it hasn’t set any goals for the interoperability and information sharing among those systems, according to a report from the Government Accountability Office. The watchdog agency assessed a diagram of the Joint Cyber Warfighting Architecture (JCWA) that was available in August. Additionally, Cyber Command has established two offices for prioritizing JCWA acquisition, but hasn’t assigned roles or responsibilities for either, GAO said. FedScoop's Sara has more.

MS-ISAC hits a big milestone

Since its creation in 2004, the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center has gone from a small coalition of IT officials from the Northeast to a sprawling network where state, local, tribal and territorial governments communicate the latest cyber threats, share best cyber hygiene practices, get risk and vulnerability assessments and sign up for network monitoring services. And earlier this month, the MS-ISAC, which is backed by the Department of Homeland Security as its designated go-to for state and local cybersecurity needs, enrolled its 10,000th member government organization.
