Anyone who is interested in cybersecurity law and policy can now take an online course that was partly shaped by the National Security Agency. The course, which can be accessed through the CLARK Center, a curriculum management platform hosted at Towson University, touches on international and domestic cybersecurity law, cyber risk and technical details like how smartphones function. James Houck, the director of Penn State’s Center for Security Research and Education and one of the creators of the course, told Shannon Vavra the program will serve as a primer to the legal and technical details of offensive and defensive cyber-operations. Anne McKenna, a Penn State professor who helped design the course, said the NSA worked directly on it, too. Although the course is unclassified and is not intended to cover internal NSA policy or business, the course description says it may prepare students for “potential future employment with the U.S. Government in the cybersecurity field.” Here's more details on the course offering

University of Pennsylvania launches cybersecurity boot camp

Following a national trend, engineering and professional studies schools at the University of Pennsylvania have partnered to offer a new cybersecurity boot camp program that will begin offering courses this November. Announced earlier this month by the university’s School of Engineering and Applied Science and College of Liberal and Professional Studies, the 24-week program is designed to give the region’s cybersecurity workforce an injection of technical talent. According to the university, there are more than 10,000 open positions in the Philadelphia area that require cybersecurity skills. Colin Wood has more.
