A new AI workforce strategy
Lawmakers on the Hill sees a gap in the government’s artificial intelligence strategy, so they’re filling in.
Reps. Will Hurd, R-Texas, and Robin Kelly, D-Ill., published a workforce AI white paper that calls for the rethinking of American education and workforce development in order for the U.S. to keep pace in the global race for AI dominance. The lawmakers worked with the Bipartisan Policy Center to release the paper, which is the first in a series of four. Congressional staff told FedScoop the lawmakers’ work is not necessarily in reaction to the White House’s but meant to be “complimentary.”
The white paper was a year in the making after Hurd and Kelly announced their bipartisan collaboration on AI policy to make up for the Trump administration’s “woefully underprepared” approach to support American AI development, as Kelly put it. Jackson Barnett has more here.

Finding talent anywhere
The National Governors Association and the American Association of Community Colleges on Tuesday launched a new initiative to identify and arm workers with skills they need to succeed in a workforce reshaped by the pandemic. The new initiative, the Reskilling and Recovery Network, is designed to join state and community college leaders and provide workers with programs and resources to reenter the workforce. Members of the network will collaborate on economic and workforce recovery efforts, and develop technical assistance programs, including webinars and facilitated peer-to-peer learning, to give workers opportunity to pursue new, well-paying careers, according to the groups. Businesses closed by the COVID-19 pandemic have led to 14 million jobs lost in the United States, according to NGA. Betsy Foresman has more.

New workforce framework for feds
Describing what exactly you do when it comes to cybersecurity can be a daunting task. In order to better categorize how the Department of Defense places its talent, its released a "Cyber Workforce Framework." The framework establishes titles based on the work an individual is performing, and not off of some internal hierarchy or other designation. The framework sorts roles by specialty areas and what role a position will play in the mission, including IT operations, data collection and analysis, and other associated support roles. Check out the framework here.
