New York awards city employees for innovation work

New York City officials on Thursday named eight city employees and teams as winners of new innovation awards given by the Mayor’s Office of the Chief Technology Officer. The NYC[x] awards, distributed in a virtual ceremony, recognize the “ingenuity and dedication” of city officials that used technology to advance the city’s use of data analytics and management, procurement processes, GIS data and digital services, among other technology efforts. Coast Guard ‘lacks control’ over telework data, GAO finds

The U.S. Coast Guard‘s plans to continue using telework could be derailed by weak data verification of how many of its members are still working remotely, the Government Accountability Office found in a new report. The maritime service might not be conducting its needed weekly audits of the surveys it collects on who is teleworking, potentially clouding the picture of how many people need tech to support their connectivity outside of Coast Guard offices. Beeck Center, NGA launch 'Data Labs' to help states recover from pandemic

The Beeck Center for Social Impact and Innovation at Georgetown University on Monday announced a new partnership with the National Governors Association to assist state government officials working on data-driven projects as they help their communities recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. The training and technical assistance program, called Data Labs: Roadmap to Recovery, intends to pair state governments with data scientists and subject matter experts to take on issues including housing and homelessness, small business support, higher education and workforce. 'Edtech Genome Project' seeks to guide billions in edtech spending

By providing 10 detailed variables on purchasing and implementing educational technologies, the nonprofit Edtech Evidence Exchange is aiming to reduce fruitless spending on new technologies, according to a new report. The University of Virginia-affiliated group, which has previously described ballooning K-12 edtech spending as the “Wild West,” seeks to provide a platform that details similar institutions’ experiences with various edtech tools.
