Headshot of person/agency from

Terryne Murphy

Acting CIO, Department of Commerce

Murphy’s federal IT career has taken her through a diverse set of agencies over the course of her career. Before arriving at Commerce headquarters she worked at the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Justice, Census Bureau and more. All this change, she would argue, is a leadership strength. The federal government should “force a change of assignments every three to four years,” she told FedScoop when asked how the government can develop more top leaders. “Leadership is comprised of many things,” she added. “Among the most important is the ability to influence others towards a common goal or set of objectives, typically greater than any one person.”
